Comparison

Generative activation vs. preset merch.

Dimension-by-dimension. Buyer-facing. Screenshottable. Every claim maps to something in the manifesto or Q4 2026 report.

Guest experience

Every guest gets a one-of-one artifact
The item leaving the station has never existed before and won't again.
Generative
Preset merch
Guests choose from 4-6 preset designs
Guest directs the creative
Prompt, voice, or upload — guest input shapes the output.
Generative
Preset merch
Name + number personalization at best
Sub-30-second generation
From guest input to on-press artwork.
Generative
Preset merch
Artwork is pre-approved before doors open
Iteration surface
Guest can regenerate or refine before committing.
Generative
Preset merch

Brand & legal

Brand-safety is documented architecture
Written moderation policy, layered safety, audit trail, human veto surface.
Generative
Four-layer moderation stack
Preset merch
Trivially safe — nothing is generated
Brand-vocabulary constraints
Competitors, off-brand terms, and restricted concepts blocked in advance.
Generative
Preset merch
Style-lock to brand visual identity
Every output stays inside the brand's approved aesthetic system.
Generative
Preset merch
Passes enterprise legal review
Reviewable against standard content-generation-vendor rubric.
Generative
Once architecture is published
Preset merch

Measurement & ROI

Returns structured data
Prompt data, generation data, keep/reject signals, share attribution.
Generative
Preset merch
Menu-pick tally only — 4-6 data points total
Post-event research asset
Clustered themes, keep-rate breakdowns, share attribution, opt-in segmentation.
Generative
Preset merch
Feeds product / social / brand teams
Data usable outside the marketing report — actionable across the org.
Generative
Preset merch
Attributable ROI framing
Cost per data point, cost per lead, share-driven reach math — measurable.
Generative
Preset merch
Fuzzy 'brand lift' framing

Production & throughput

Real-scale throughput
30-40 guests per hour per station with 90-120s per-guest cycle.
Generative
Preset merch
Traditional strength
Local crew, no travel fees
Production hardware and operators in-market.
Generative
Preset merch
Multi-city / multi-day scalable
Simultaneous activations across cities without quality drift.
Generative
Preset merch
Post-event webstore fulfillment
Guests who missed the on-site window can still buy their design.
Generative
Preset merch

Content & reach

Attendees post different content
Photos posted by 500 guests are visually distinct from each other.
Generative
Preset merch
Same 4-6 designs repeat across posts
Reach compounds
Every post is visually novel — the algorithm doesn't deduplicate.
Generative
Preset merch
Content stays relevant beyond event day
Unique artifact = higher chance of being kept and worn again.
Generative
Preset merch
Preset merch shows up at Goodwill 2-3 weeks after event

The six questions to ask any generative activation vendor

The claims above are easy to make in a pitch deck. The answers to these questions are hard to fake.

  1. 1
What's your per-guest cycle time at 30-person queue depth?
Why: If they can't answer, they haven't run at that depth. Above 120 seconds and the line dies.
  2. 2
Where does moderation run — before or after generation?
Why: Serial moderation adds 8-15 seconds. Parallel is the only enterprise-safe pattern.
  3. 3
Who does art prep between model output and press?
Why: If a human on a laptop, they can't scale past 15-20 guests per hour. It has to be a code path.
  4. 4
Show me the schema of the structured data you return.
Why: If they hand you a PDF report, you don't get data. If they hand you a queryable dataset, you do.
  5. 5
Can I see a redacted audit trail from a prior activation?
Why: If they can't produce one, they haven't run at real scale.
  6. 6
What happens if a generated output slips moderation and gets printed?
Why: Every serious operator has an incident-response plan. If they don't, you're the beta test.
